Auditions are held at YLT. If you are planning to audition for a musical, please be ready to sing 16 bars of your favorite song with a karaoke CD (Sheet music is fine too but please call ahead so we can have a pianist ready, however karaoke CD is preferred). Both musicals and plays will have a cold reading and depending on the director, the musicals might have a cold dance audition.

Tips for a Fabulous Audition
1) Know the show you are  auditioning for! This will impress the director, and you can prepare any accents needed for a cold reading.
2) Be prepared for your audition! Having a song ready and singing with a karaoke CD is very impressive. It also shows the director your dedication for the show.
3) Be polite! Auditions might take a while and you might be sitting for a hour doing nothing. While the director is watching those auditioning on stage, they might have an assistant watching the behavior of those in the audience. Personal behavior plays a big role when casting parts.
4) Be flexible! More call backs might be needed to decided on leads. If you cannot make a call backs that might stand in the way of getting your favorite part. Also, the director might want you in a completely different part than what you wanted, so be willing to accept a part other than your favorite.

Tips for Song Choices:
1) One can never go wrong with a Broadway song! Popular songs of today do not really show the range of a singer. Broadway songs are best.
2) Sing a song from the show your are auditioning for! Most people say this is a no-no, but we at YLT think it is a great way to show the director how well you might sing a part.
3) If you want to be the villain, sing a villain type song, like "Alive" from Jekyll and Hyde. Same goes if you want be the princess, sing a princess type song like "Part of Your World" from Little Mermaid.
